TITLE:
INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT/HIGHLY QUALIFIED INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT
POSITION TYPE:

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
To provide instructional or other direct services to students assigned alternative to suspension working under the supervision of the certified staff member who is responsible for the overall conduct and management of the classroom program, including the design, implementation and evaluation of instruction and student programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma
- For Highly Qualified:
- Minimum of 60 semester college credit hours from an accredited college or university
- OR successful passing score of the ParaPro Assessment exam

Teacher
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish and maintain a structured and supportive environment for students assigned Alternative to Suspension or In School Suspension
- Monitor student progress on classwork provided by teachers
- Implement restorative practices with students as directed by school administrators
- Escort students to and from the restroom, lunchroom, or for other break periods
- Monitor and report inappropriate behavior by students to administration
- Complete data entry tasks, prepare written communications, and maintain accurate records related to student discipline matters
- Administer, score, and record such achievement and diagnostic tests as the teacher recommends for individual students
- Assist individual students to reinforce learning of materials or skills initially introduced by the teacher
- Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing learning of materials or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students their needs, interests, and abilities
- Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
- Assist students to master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher
- Distribute and collect workbooks, papers, and other materials for instruction
- Guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up and assigned by the teacher
- Assist with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips
- Keep bulletin boards and other classroom learning displays up-to-date
- Check notebooks, correct papers, and supervise testing and make-up work, as assigned by the teacher
- Check and record student attendance
- Collect and record collection of money
- Report to the regular teacher student progress and any special problem or special information about individual student
- Serve as the chief source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher
- Maintain the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentially of information about student as is expected of fully licensed teachers
- Participate in in-service training programs, as scheduled
- Ability to work with students identified as special needs to include mental and physical disabilities
- Perform other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
Involves limited physical tasks including lifting, and may involve operation of equipment such as computers, copiers, overhead projectors, etc.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 180 days – 10 month contract;
