TITLE: Occupational Therapist
QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited school 2. Licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Board of Medicine and Certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc.
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education/Principal

JOB GOAL: To evaluate and provide purposeful, goal directed, developmentally sequenced activities for the correction of perceptual, sensory, psycho-social, motor or self-care deficits that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from
PERFORMANCE
RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Serve as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for handicapped students whose adaptive skills and/or effective functioning in the environment has been impaired
- Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing, and referring students with suspected and identified gross and fine motor impairments
- Provide a thorough assessment and written documentation of testing of significant developmental delays, gross and fine motor functions, sensory motor and perceptual motor difficulties, social emotional adjustments and self-help skills
- Develop and implement an Individualized Education Plan for each student, tailored to their unique educational needs
- Provide appropriate individualized programs of therapy to meet individual student’s needs and correct existing sensory, perceptual and/or motor handicaps
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy by suggestions for the student’s daily activities
- Provide information and support to parents and families when appropriate
- Provide inservice education and serve as a consultant to teachers and school staff members on topics concurring occupational therapy
- Keep thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy or other school-provided services
- Maintain list of referred, screened, and eligible students, as well as a directory of outside agencies, consultants, specialists, and related services
- Assist in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate
- Assume primary responsibility for requisitioning and maintaining needed equipment and supplies
- Attend staff meetings, school Child Study Committee meetings, and Eligibility meeting on students that have been evaluated by Occupational Therapist
- Perform other duties as assigned
PHYSICAL
REQUIREMENTS: Involves frequent traveling to and from schools, transporting equipment, lifting and attaching equipment by climbing on chairs, and the lifting and positioning of students
TERMS OF
EMPLOYMENT: 10 month contract; Salary based upon teacher’s scale
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Personnel. |
