TITLE:
Strings Alive Teacher
POSITION TYPE:
Part-Time (maximum 9 hours per week)
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Provide string instruction to students in grades 6 through 12 in multiple buildings
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Holds a professional license or be eligible for an endorsement in Music: Instrumental PreK-12 through the Virginia Department of Education
- Successful teaching experience at multiple age and ability levels
- Piano skills, a plus
REPORTS TO:
Coordinator of Gifted Education
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Demonstrates the following skills and knowledge: strings instruction, ensemble direction, music theory, music arrangement, and transposition
- Demonstrates knowledge of other orchestral instruments and basic instrument maintenance
- Create an engaging and well-structured curriculum and learning environment
- Provide students with age-appropriate activities and feedback
- Evaluate student progress based on formal and informal assessment
- Attend and participate in parent-teacher conferences, as needed
- Plan and execute two performances in the fall/winter and spring
- Create and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, staff, and community
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Involves traveling to and from schools
