JOB DESCRIPTION

 

TITLE:

               HVAC Mechanic

 

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

               To maintain optimal healthy environmental conditions in buildings within the most cost-efficient use of energy resources

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At a minimum, candidate must have had well-rounded training acquired through a formal apprenticeship with 2 to 5 years hands-on experience with various types of electrical equipment
  • Valid electrician’s license; may be waived
  • Have some background in plumbing, standard piping practices, and metal work
  • Demonstrated ability to train and supervise assistants, if required
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to changes in environmental field
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with other employees and supervisory personnel
  • Demonstrated ability to work required hours as job requires
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise good judgement during emergencies and special services
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain records/reports pertaining to equipment use, inspections, inventory, purchasing, etc.
  • Willingness to attend workshops, seminars, etc., to know techniques and technology pertaining to HVAC
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and install electronics control systems
  • Extensive computer skills with specific software programs

 

REPORTS TO:

               Director of Operations

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To install, maintain, and repair a variety of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment
  • Change filters on a regular basis to insure clean quality of air to all facilities and meet air quality regulations
  • To install and maintain electrical control systems
  • To lay out and inspect work
  • To develop a system for dealing with emergency repair problems
  • To establish and recommend priorities on repair projects
  • To order materials as needed and recommend equipment purchases
  • Demonstrated ability to work designated work hours
  • To consult with supervisor and building principals regarding the establishment of energy conservation programs
  • To examine buildings on regular basis to insure compliance with energy conservation directives
  • Provide documentation of building diagnostics as related to heating and cooling
  • To keep documentation of maintenance work performed and other work order requests
  • To perform other duties as assigned

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

               12 month contract; Grade A16

 

EVALUATION:

               Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Personnel
